Oak Woodlands Golden Gate Volunteers and Horseshoe Arena
The Oak Woodlands Volunteers work with the SF Rec and Park's Natural Areas Program to provide stewardship for the Oak Woodlands Natural Area in Golden Gate Park.
The Oak Woodland area covers a large region of northeastern GG Park, roughly bound by 6th Av ( west ) , Fulton ( north ) , Stanyan ( east ) and Conservatory Dr and JFK Blvd ( south ) Within that region, and near to Stanyan / Fulton are Lick Hill and the historic Horseshoe Arena. We have a common interest with SF Horseshoe Pitchers Association in the stewardship of this area , including the restoration of the Courts. The Oak Woodlands include several ' groves ' of native habitat and original landscape that feature , as the keystone species , the Coast Live Oak- quercus agrifolia and associated shrubs and herbs. For historical and ecological reasons San Francisco has designated this region as a Natural Area to be protected and managed under the SF RPD 's Natural Areas Program. A key part of this arrangement is the role carved out for community stewardship including habitat restoration, landscape management , trail maintenance and restoration , infrastructure restoration , recreation and education development , and public safety. So Oak Woodlands Volunteers and SF Horseshoe Pitchers want to invite those who want to participate in this mission to join with us. You can go to the Oak Woodlands website at <sfnaturalareas.com> , click to Oak Woodlands to see some of our ongoing work, contact the SF Horseshoe Pitchers' Peter Z. for information and contact me , Rob Bakewell, Volunteer Steward for Oak Woodlands at 415-710-9617 for more information . We will be posting more info re this Oak Woodlands - Horseshoe Arena GG Park mission soon. ROB BAKEWELL

Rednecks breaking out
The Devils' Brigade is now starting chapters in Conneticut and Louisianna. We have clubs interested in Virginia and Minnesota as well. We are starting the American Doubles Horseshoe Pitching Association. We will specialize in Non walking doubles and getting new people interested in playing shoes. I would love to start a chapter in California. Let's get a discussion going and see how to make this a reality. Take a look at our mission statement and our rank structure on the website. www.diablo-forge.com/horseshoe

Rules of Horseshoes
