John (Jack) O'Brien: grew up in San Francisco and played at Golden Gate Park throughout his life. He was a member in the 30's up until 1992 or so, and had a love of horseshoes. He won several tournaments, was a State Champion, played against all the top players in the Bay Area, including Don Titcomb, and many others and owned one of the highest throwing percentages during his time. He also played in Burlingame, Santa Cruz as well as others in the Bay Area and was also a member in San Jose in the 80's as well.Born in 1919 in S.F., and passed away in 1993. Lived on Cole Street in 1959 just blocks from the park when son Tom O'Brien was born, then moved to San Bruno shortly thereafter. He'd continue going to the park through the 60's, 70's & 80's, playing tournaments, and to meet up with old friends and players. I believe the club house burned down in the 80's which was really too bad, as they had many photo's on the walls of all the previous tournaments along winners and members.
